The Mountain Performance Workshop, like Training for the New Alpinism and the rest of Uphill Athlete, came about due to popular demand. People simply asked us to come and teach a seminar about how to self-coach for mountain sports. Our original two-day workshop was held in Portland Oregon in 2014, we’ve since conducted private workshops as well as two one-day Mountain Performance Workshops in Boulder Colorado in 2016. For Boulder we condensed the material and added more practical, actionable information such as a workout library.
There are two versions of the Mountain Performance Workshop. One is hosted online and one live, which in past years have been held in Portland Oregon, Boulder Colorado, and Chamonix France. In both the 7-hour online seminar, and the 9 hour live seminar, Steve and Scott present a series of lectures that address climbing, ski-mountaineering, SkiMo Racing, and mountain running (up to and including ultra-distances) specific training for the self-coached athlete. In the live seminar the additional time is spent answering individual questions and helping individuals with the details of their plans. The online version is available to you for one year so you can watch it repeatedly. The video itself is broken into chapters so you can quickly find the information you’re looking for.
The students at these workshops tend to be split between coaches looking to expand their knowledge of training for mountain endurance sports and individuals looking to put a solid intellectual framework behind their training in order to improve, and get more out of their mountain pursuits.
We hope to see some of you in Chamonix, and if you can’t make it there, see you online!
